— There are more insects on an acre of country land in the summer than there are human beings on the face of the earth…

I went into a garden shop, picked up an insecticide, and asked the cashier if it was good for red ants. “Nah,” he said, “It’ll kill them!”

— Was it poet Carl Sandburg who described the fog as creeping in on “little cat feet?”–How about cougar paws? A 150-pound cougar was shot dead by police in a residential neighborhood of Chicago’s North Side, ending a series of recent sightings reported in recent times. The cougar will be checked for tags and implanted chips which might reveal if the cougar was someone’s pet.

As reported in a recent Monster Quest episode, however, large predacious animals have recently been reported in areas assumed to be devoid of them…intrusions which will probably become increasingly common as the natural habitats and prey of those animals are whittled away by man…

–In India about 25 miles from New Delhi, a baby was born to impoverished parents that has two faces on a single head…two sets of eyes, two noses, and two mouths.  The child is in no acute danger, and there is no talk of separation, which would likely be impossible.

Now about a month old, the baby is revered by many as the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess, and is visited by throngs offering money or other gifts and wishing to touch the baby’s feet in search of blessings…

— If a dog bites a person, it’s not news…the reverse is news! Well, a 38-year-old woman in Minneapolis saw a pit bull attack her 12-year-old lab in her fenced-in back yard on Friday, and she couldn’t pry the other dog’s jaws loose, so she bit the pit bull on the nose! The pit bull then released its grip, and the lab named Ella was saved, although it suffered injuries. The woman actually experienced having the pit bull’s blood in her mouth.

The pit bull is being tested for rabies to see if the woman must undergo treatment…

cheetos.jpg –Hehe!–Just when you think that they couldn’t find Jesus or Elvis in any more places, a Houston youth minister has found an image of Christ in…a cheeto!  He is said to have outstretched arms, and everything…and they shall call His name, “Cheezus!”–Remember when someone saw the Virgin Mary in a cheese sandwich?

Someone paid over a thousand bucks on eBay for a cornflake shaped like the state of Illinois…it will be part of a traveling collection.– Yep, I’d pay to see that!  They are picking the Illinois cornflake up in person so it doesn’t suffer the fate of the world’s biggest cornflake, which broke into three pieces in the mail…

eagle-ray.jpg –A 55-year-old woman from Michigan was killed on Thursday off the Florida Keys when the moving boat she was on was struck by a 75-pound eagle ray. This was simply a bizarre accident; the woman died when she was knocked to the deck of the boat. A barb from the ray is not what killed the woman as had been the case with Steve Irwin.

The ray is thought to have leaped to avoid predators or dislodge parasites; this was normal behavior. The woman was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time…

white-killer.jpg — An elusive, almost mystical white killer whale has been photographed off Alaska’s Alleutian Islands! The whale has been previously reported but its existence not documented. Actually only the saddle area of the whale is white; other areas are kind of a yellow or brown-white.   This means that the whale is not a true albino, which is proably good…albinos tend not to live long, and are prone to health problems.  The whale is thought to be a healthy male, about 25 – 30 feet long and weighing upwards of 10,000 pounds…very cool!
