The Goat Man…

January 30, 2012

 – – Imagine David Duchovny who once played Fox Mulder in The X-Files wearing a full beard and mane of hair and traveling around in a VW Jetta with two goats named Lance and Freida, and you begin to get an idea of what a quirky movie Goats is!  Duchovny’s character, the Goat Man, is a philosophical, marijuana-smoking goatherd who serves as a mentor to a 15-year-old boy in this coming-of-age comedy/drama.

Duchovny supposedly displays an uncanny ability to make convincing goat sounds, and exhibits a complex relationship with animals in the film.   His stoner/gardener character also walks around in the buff a lot in the movie, which some reviewers call a standout and others have simply considered baaaad

Mainstreaming Furry…

April 26, 2010

– – New York’s Parks Department has their first official furry mascot,  the very alluring Pearl the Squirrel! A furry also known as a “Parkie,”  Pearl even has her own bio…she’s an urban park ranger by day, and enjoys riding her bike through the city parks.  Acorns are a food fave, and she enjoys making them into whistles as well…not surprisingly, green is her favorite color…this is an ecologically-minded squirrel, furolks.

Although developed for New York City Parks,  Pearl was created by a cartoonist who works for Disney and hails from Salt Lake City.  Appearing in both fursuited and cartoon images, Pearl may help introduce New Yorkers to the wide wonderful world of furry!

“Wolf Moon” Tonight!

January 30, 2010

– – The full moon on the night of January 29th will be the biggest and brightest full moon of the year.  It is also known as The Wolf Moon, a name dating back to Native American culture and the notion that hungry wolves howled at the moon on cold winter nights!  What a beautiful image…except for the wolves being hungry, of course!

Tonight, the moon will appear 14 percent wider and 30 percent brighter than lesser full moons of the year, which is caused by a full moon coinciding with the moon reaching its perigee, or closest point to us...

…so have yourselves a howling good time!

The Minnow Rides Again!

August 13, 2008

–Remember Gilligan’s Island, the old sitcom so bad that it was good?–“Seven passengers set sail that day on a three-hour tour?”–Well, the ill-fated boat The Minnow from that show has been restored by a new owner, and will again be offering three-hour tours in Canada.

It has long been debated which character was hotter on that show, Ginger the movie star or Mary Ann, the girl next door.  For me, it was two paws up for Mary Ann.– And let us not forget the Professor, who could make a radio from coconuts, but not fix a hole in the boat’s hull! The Professor was a good-looking dude in his day...
