Kitten Bears Message Of Love

March 26, 2008

08324194532_kitty-love1-185.jpg — A kitten born in California on Easter in a litter of six appears to bear a message of love for its mother; the black and white kitten’s markings seem to say, “I (heart) (dot).”  The kitten’s mother is named “Dottie”…cute, huh?

Eagle Ray Fatality

March 22, 2008

eagle-ray.jpg –A 55-year-old woman from Michigan was killed on Thursday off the Florida Keys when the moving boat she was on was struck by a 75-pound eagle ray. This was simply a bizarre accident; the woman died when she was knocked to the deck of the boat. A barb from the ray is not what killed the woman as had been the case with Steve Irwin.

The ray is thought to have leaped to avoid predators or dislodge parasites; this was normal behavior. The woman was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time…

White Killer Whale

March 9, 2008

white-killer.jpg — An elusive, almost mystical white killer whale has been photographed off Alaska’s Alleutian Islands! The whale has been previously reported but its existence not documented. Actually only the saddle area of the whale is white; other areas are kind of a yellow or brown-white.   This means that the whale is not a true albino, which is proably good…albinos tend not to live long, and are prone to health problems.  The whale is thought to be a healthy male, about 25 – 30 feet long and weighing upwards of 10,000 pounds…very cool!

The Lizard Man of South Carolina

March 3, 2008

lizard-man.jpg — There haven’t been many accounts of his activity since 1988, but South Carolina’s Lizard Man is now reportedly becoming more active. This is a seven-foot bipedal reptilian creature with scaly green skin, red eyes, and three elongated digits on all four limbs. He has been seen most often in swamp areas and back roads of South Carolina, and may have been seen as early as 1972 although the first “official” account is from 1988.

Lizard Man is strong, agile, and swift. In the 1988 account, a 17-year-old was changing a tire late at night near the Scrape Ore Swamp near Bishopville, S.C. and had just finished the task when a reptilian creature came running at considerable speed towards him. The kid managed to get back inside the car, but not before Lizard Man had grabbed the driver’s side mirror. The observer then took off in the car with Lizard Man in pursuit, the creature then jumping onto the roof of the car. The young man sped up and was able to shake the thing off, but damage was done to the side mirror and roof. Lizard Man was described as “strong and angry.” Other independent sightings were reported in 1988.

Recent reports of Lizard Man’s activities have included damage to cars and the slaughter of cats…

Mother of All Toads…

February 28, 2008

beelzebufo.jpg —They’ve found fossilized remains in Madagascar of a toad about the size of a bowling ball that weighed ten pounds and co-existed with the dinosaurs.  This sucker also had an armorized hide and teeth!–Called beelzebufo or “devil frog,” this new specimen shows us that we continue to discover new life forms, extinct and present today, with many more certain to be discovered in the future

Vintage Wierd

February 10, 2008

exploding_whale.jpgNot for the queasy!–In November of 1970, a 45-foot, eight-ton carcass of a dead whale washed up on the coast of Oregon. It was rancid and they wanted to get rid of it, so a group of highway engineers decided to blow the sucker up with dynamite! This was on the theory that the dynamited whale parts would then be consumed by seagulls and the problem would be eliminated. So they put half a ton of dynamite next to the dead whale, and set it off…and in the resulting explosion, some rather big chunks of dead whale blubber filled the air, threatening the spectators and causing them to beat a hasty retreat. One big chunk o’ dead whale impacted with the roof of a car with predictable bad results. All in all, it was not a pretty sight…

…and this is not an “urban legend”…this really happened! The event was taped, and the video may still be seen…

Monster Quest!

January 21, 2008

werewolf.jpg  —The History Channel hosts a number of shows that aren’t exactly historical, and Monster Quest is one of the best.  This hour-long show airs Wednesday night at 10:00 along the eastern U.S. coast, and features weekly excursions into the paranormal and the unexplained.  To be aired this Wednesday January 23rd is an episode called American Werewolf, covering appearances of a dog-man in Wisconsin and other states.

Also on the History Channel Monday at 9:00 in my area is a show called Life After People, covering the resurgence of other life forms following the extinction of homo sapiens…promos look intriguing!

Sky Squid?

January 11, 2008

cropped-rod.jpgrodspic.jpg — They’ve been called “rods” for want of a better term, but they are cylindrical flying UFO’s that have unintentionally appeared in some photographs since 1910. Some think that they are life forms from a 4th dimension; others that they are a new type of cephalopod related to squid that uses jet propulsion, perhaps born in the sea and living in the sky. Or they may just be photographic artifacts…

I want to believe in them as transdimensional beings, but they are probably tricks of film and light…

Going For A Birdie?

January 5, 2008

In Australia, a couple put four golf balls into nests at their chicken house so as to encourage the chickens to nest.  Well, a snake got into the henhouse, and thinking the golf balls were eggs, ate them!  The snake was later found with four distinct swellings in its body, and the couple knew that they were the golf balls…the small python was taken to a vet, where the golf balls had to be surgically removed.

Maybe the snake was a golfer trying for an eagle or a birdie…rock-python-python-molurus.jpg

Tiger Provoked?

January 3, 2008

tiger.jpg  –Well, it appears that Tatiana, the San Francisco Zoo Siberian tiger (pictured) who escaped her enclosure Xmas day and attack three visitors, killing one, may have been provoked!  A slingshot has been found on one of the brothers mauled, as well as a bottle of liquor in their car.  Additionally a rock was found in the late tiger’s enclosure which did not belong there.  If she had been pelted with rocks prior to vaulting her enclosure wall, the trigger for Tatiana’s attack is obvious.

Of course, the brothers involved have already gotten a smart lawyer who is faulting zoo security for not getting there sooner…and the zoo has reopened with enhanced security and signs encouraging visitors to respect the animals…
