– – The action continues at the Watering Hole, and in this airing it’s time for the girls to come front and center…two long-necked beauties, specifically an ostrich (–perhaps swan?) and a giraffe! The animation is amazing, but reactions to the commercial itself appear to be divided along the lines of, “It’s creepy and disturbing,” versus “They’re hot!” So choose your side, I guess…but I like this universe!
Females everywhere regardless of species apparently have commonalities if this commercial is to be believed, and these two ladies engage in the bar pastimes of shooting down guys who hit on them, and making “catty” comments about other females…in this case, a rhino girl who had her nose done, and a camel chick with humps that “do not exist in nature!“
Whether you love this commercial series or hate it, you can entertain yourself deciding which female celebrities the four presented characters resemble! I’ve heard Taylor Swift, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Snookie mentioned as possibilities…
– – I, for one, enjoy a good creative anachronism, and the Capital One vikings seem oddly at home in this election year, even if they do have seemingly-British rather than Danish, Scandinavian, or by default Germanic accents. We’ve seen these highly-visible Visigoths at places like New Orleans, Vegas, New York, and Washington, D.C….here, apparently checking out some dinosaur exhibits at the Smithsonian. They even formulate a public policy agenda of “No new axes!” Now that’s a slogan we could live…or die by!
Appearing at times with goats, a donkey, or hairy children, perhaps these vikings are the shape of future retro…
– – A rhinoceros, a cheetah, and a gazelle walk into a bar…it sounds like a hokey joke, but it’s the theme for a Kraft MiO liquid water enhancer commercial! Blending the line between live action and animation, the spot makes over wild animals into twenty-something dudes, inhabiting a bar appropriately called, The Watering Hole. The Rhino is a solid, muscular guy with glasses wearing a tight T-shirt labeled (–What else?) “Animal.” The Cheetah is a sleek speedster in a leather jacket who bewails the fact that MiO energy drinks are “completely crushing my game” by making everyone “…more energized, more alert” after mixing MiO into their water. As a result, the Cheetah is no longer the fastest beast around!
“Remember when I used to be it?,” continues the Cheetah. “I was the man. If you needed to track a gazelle down for dinner, you came to me.” At that point a jeans-jacket wearing Gazelle literally laughs in the Cheetah’s face!
It’s a great furry bar scene, a place where I’d certainly be at home! Watch for a future spot to include a giraffe…
– – Riding on the coattails of the popularity of Geico’s Maxwell the pig, Cici’s Pizza has unleashed near look-alike pigs seen speeding around in a blue van…and the kicker is, these pigs are advertising not insurance, but (-gasp!) a Hog Fest promotion, which means a pizza with bacon, sausage, ham, and pepperoni!- –Oh the horror, thehorror!
Things may get ugly in the Pig Wars from this point on, but you may count on Foxsylvania to give you an unflinching look at the atrocities and keep you fully informed, for you deserve nothing less!
– – Turn to the Bark Side…you know it is your destiny!
A teaser for a Volkswagen Super Bowl ad, the new commercial features a number of assorted dogs barking to Darth Vader’s distinctive “Imperial March” theme from Star Wars. The dogs play different Star Wars characters; there’s even an Ewok and a Wookie dog, and at the end a greyhound or whippet clad as an AT-AT parades across the stage! Is it Paw Wars?–Or are these not the dogs that you’re looking for?
Apparently none of this teaser will appear in the actual upcoming Super Bowl commercial, which is to herald the arrival of the redesigned VW Beetle…
– – Some DietDr. Pepper commercials have recently featured mythological characters, including Sasquatch, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, a leprechaun, an alien, a merman, and others. The stop-motion features evoke the Rudolph specials of old. The underlying notion is that it’s as hard to get people to believe in a satisfying diet drink as it is to sell them on the notion of the existence of legendary or mythological figures.
In one version, the unlikely and fantastic characters are seated in a circle of chairs as part of an “I Exist!” support group, listening to Santa complaining about not being believed in by his core constituents…another version re-unites this cast, also bringing forth a unicorn and a merman, the latter introduced as the boyfriend of the tooth fairy…the merman gets so taken with the flavor of Diet Dr. Pepper that he breaks his aquatic container with an enthusiastic rap of his trident!
Perhaps I can find a local chapter of the I Exist support group…heaven knows I need the validation!
– – He’s still having fun, and he’s still the one!- -Maxwell the pig, that is. Reappearing in a commercial for the new Geico mobile app and having the time of his life, Maxwell is enthusiastically riding along high above the ground on a zip line, his little feet flailing, sensibly helmeted, and a pinwheel in each hoof! He catches up with a slower moving rider, slows momentarily, and pronounces his experience to be “Pure…adrenaline!” Then Maxwell is off, pinwheels spinning and “whee!”-ing as he goes! We’d expect nothing less from him…
…Well done, Maxwell, for returning just as we needed ‘ya, and getting 2012 off to a good furry start!
— Some have referred to the Yodeling Cat as being “creepy” or “disturbing” or even “horrifying,” but the holiday season seems to spawn such things, and one may see the creepy and disturbing prowling the aisles at Walmart anyways, so I welcome this white-furred warbler as a twisted commentary on where the excesses of Xmas can lead us. It’s also perhaps the most significant intrusion of yodeling into pop culture since the late great Andy Kaufman yodeled to an African drum rhythm, or yodeling was used as a potent weapon against alien invasion in the movie, Mars Attacks!
As one who loves dementedly random things as well asjuxtaposition, by extension I’m also led to wonder if perhaps by yodeling we who are furry might also also use it as a force for societal change, or at least by yodeling cause Donald Trump’s head to explode as those of Tim Burton’s aliens did.- – It’s worth a try…
We’ve come a long way since the 1955 novelty hit, “Jingle Bells” by the Singing Dogs, right?– No, I didn’t think so either…
– – I don’t like hunting, even in its video game incarnations since the goal is killing the most helpless, majestic animal that you possibly can. The commercials for the PS3 version of the product, however, are a hoot, featuring as they do a sentient and articulate buck who sits on the couch while playing the game and winging comments at his human host as he does so. In one commercial version (not depicted) the buck even mocks an outrageous sweater that the host is wearing!
While it’s arguably creepy that a deer would be depicted killing other animals including his own kind, perhaps he’s just imitating his human models…and I’ll take as much of a deer trash-talking humans as I can get!
– – I, for one, have always been concerned about my vulnerability to attacks by giant robots, and therefore am comforted that State Farm has me covered in this contingency.
Perhaps inspired by rival Allstate’s Mayhem commercials, State Farm in its “State of Chaos” spot depicts some poor devil called Dwayne whose house is getting torn apart by a giant robot which bears a suspicious resemblance to “Atlas” from the video game, Portal 2. First his car gets decimated, followed by his house, and then Dwayne himself is plucked up in his Lay-Z-Boy! His friends stand by and act like the spectacle is the coolest thing that they’ve ever seen. And fear not, Dwayne is safely deposited in his easy chair atop a neighbor’s SUV…”Nice landing!,” comments one friend.
I’d consider being offed by a giant robot a suitable way to go, if aliens or legendary monsters were not available. A great sequel to this commercial might match the robotic colossus against Allstate’s Mayhem guy in a death match…I’d buy a ticket to that!
