Toon In With Me…

There’s a strange live-action/animated anthology TV series hosted by “Bill” (Bill Leff ) , MeTV’s “cartoon curator,” along with his puppet friend, Toony the Tuna. One does not often see a fish co-hosting a TV show, much less a talking fish apparently comfortable out of water, but Toony manages. Toony even sports wardrobe changes!
Each show contains four to six animated shorts taken from classic cartoon shows, including Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, Tom and Jerry, Betty Boop, Popeye, Woody Woodpecker, and a number pf others. The shows featured mostly aired from the 1950’s through the 1990’s. In between cartoons, Bill and Toony banter about what the cartoons illustrate, as well as issues around the studio. The show can be mildly educational at times…
While the MeTV show airs early weekdays in many areas for just an hour, a more comprehensive 24-hour a day version called MeTV Toons began in late June, and is available through subscription, or if you’re fortunate enough may be available through your cable package in your local area. Several complete episodes are available for free through YouTube. At any rate, it’s nice to see a series dedicated to the airing of classic ‘toons, and we’ll just hope that Toony doesn’t wind up in a casserole or someone’s sandwich…

Strange you say that last part. Tom Lester–the actor who played farmhand Eb Dawson on the classic sitcom GREEN ACRES–once got in a lot of trouble when he jokingly told a reporter that the pig who played Arnold Ziffel had been the main course at the post-series finale cast party!*
*The slang term for that is “wrap” party. But, if the ill-advised joke had been the truth, would that have made it a “bacon-wrap” party? 😉

“Green Acres” still gets airplay on MeTV, along with other hokey old shows that I can’t stand to watch! 😾

Such was the Golden Age of TV Comedy, dear boy. As a 1959-er, I grew up watching them, so I have a much greater tolerance for them. And, I’m equally sure that, twenty years from now, the sit-coms that Millenials regard as timely will be regarded by their kids and grandkids as hokey!

Alrighty then, but I’d still regard a “Gilligan’s Island” marathon as cruel and unusual punishment! 😸

I reluctantly have to agree with you, there. It’s why I had the Seaview nuke it in a “Voyage To The Bottom of the Sea” fanfic, some years back!

Of course! The Seaview brought the whole septet back to the USA. They merely nuked the island.

Btw: I was eating at the local 99’s tonight, and apparently the New England Sports Network (NESN) has a Sunday eveing show called “The Mad Fisherman” starring one Charlie Moore (sort of Bill Murray meets Jeremy Wade). And the guy he went bass fishing with was a stand-up comedian who owns his own dinner theater/night club in Massachsetts. The comic’s name is Paul Gilligan and, yes, he calls his establishment…Gilligan’s Island!

Providing he hasn’t boiled, yet.*
*Sorry! It just sounds like something you’d call a pet lobster. Either that or Capt. Hook!

Or perhaps even “Claws,” drawing inspiration from “Jaws…” 🙀

Believe it or not, I think that was actually the name of a 1980 monster movie about giant killer crabs!
