“Shark Week” 2026 Is Almost Here!
Good readers, I would be sorely remiss if I did not remind you that Shark Week begins this Sunday, July 26th, on the Discovery Channel!
Just when you thought that it was safe to get back into the water, right? Shark Week premiered on July 17, 1988 as a block focused on shark conservation and dispelling myths about sharks…
Yes, I know that you’ve waited impatiently all year for this, and you’re not alone…because Shark Week is broadcast annually across more than 72 countries!
Shark Week is recognized as the longest-running cable TV programming event in history!
Popular recurring franchises include Air Jaws alongside programs tracking great white movements, shark intelligence, and historical shark attacks…

I had a sharkskin jacket when I was a kid. It had a kind of iridescence, and they were popular at the time. No real sharks were harmed in the making of the jacket, of course… 🙂

The ones made from genuine shark-skin were probably way more expensive. Would that genuine sharkfin soup would likewise fall permanently out of fashion!

OK! I owe you an apology. It appears sharkskin suits were ironically one of the many uses shagreen (actual shark-skin) was NOT put to.
