The Kat Lady Kit Kat Halloween Commercial…

People with multiple cats tend to be regarded as demented; “Crazy Cat Lady” is practically part of the language.  Well, cats can really come into their own on Halloween, as illustrated in this 2016 Kit Kat candy commercial.  The brief spot begins when a mother out with Trick-or-Treating kids asks them whose house they want to visit first.  “The Cat Lady!,” they gleefully shriek.

Next we are shown the woman in question, seated comfortably in her home.  The doorbell rings, and immediately one cat across from her unfurls an impressive set of bat-like wings.  Next an Egyptian-styled cat saunters regally across the room. “It’s go-time, Kitty-Cat!,” announces the woman as she grabs a bowl filled with Kit Kat treats.

So have a break…have a Kit Kat bar!  Wouldn’t you like to have a winged cat?  And Halloween is a lifestyle for some of us, really…

TCM has probably already shown it. But, one of the creepiest Karloff/Lugosi team-ups from Depression-era Universal Studios was THE BLACK CAT.` Personally, though? The creepiest TV-movie I ever saw, involving fell felines, was THE CAT CREATURE (starring David Hedison and Meredith Baxter Birney) in the early 1970’s.

Speaking of Halloween; I used to do this on the message boards at IMDB as sort of annual traditon. That is; till the cyber-trolls became too intolerable with their internecine arguing. Resulting in permanent suspension of the message boards!

Anyway; this was–and still is–meant as a tribute to the cult-classic film franchise started by John Carpenter and the late, great Debra Hill. So, presenting, my 2017 edition of…

    THE HALLOWEEN CHRONOLOGY!

    (Insert faux-reverb here)

1957: Michael Aubrey Myers is born in Haddonfield, Illinois.
1961: His younger sister Laurie is born.
1963: On the night of Oct, 31, six year-old Michale brutally stabs his older sister Judith to death! He is committed to Smith’s Grove Sanitorium until he is old enough to stand trial.

1965: Following the deaths of her birth-parents in a car crash, young Laurie is adopted by a couple named Strode. With her true heritage sealed by court order!

1978: Occurrence of the events depicted in the original HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II.

(Note: Mr. and Mrs. Strode are apparently killed off-camera).

1979: Following her eighteenth birthday, Laurie marries paramedic Jimmy Lloyd. Their daughter Jamie is born nine months later.

1981: Jamie’s younger brother John is born (and named for his adoptive great-uncle).

1982: Ocurrence of the events depicted in HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH.

(Note: several trick-or-treaters, wearing defective Silver Shamrock, apparently suffocate to death on the Lloyds’ front door step. Permanently solidifying Laurie’s fear of the holiday!)

1987: While driving home from church on Sunday morning (Nov. 1), Laurie and Jimmy argue over his having taken the children trick-or-treating, the night before, against her wishes. This distracts them from noticing an on-coming car until it’s too late to avoid swerving off the road! Laurie and John are thrown clear, but knocked out. When Laurie revives, she sees the car in flames and assumes Jimmy and Jamie were burnt to death. Her paranoia now seemingly justified, she lets the police think the same thing about herself and John. By the time she learns the truth, it’s too late. Jamie–thrown clear in the opposite direction–is now a foster child of the Carruthers family.

(Note: John will later be told that his father ran out on them.)

1988: Occurrence of the events depicted in HALLOWEEN 4.
1989: Occurrence of the events depicted in HALLOWEEN 5.
1990: Laurie’s adoptive cousin, Kari Strode, becomes the unwed mother of a son she names Danny.

1992: Jamie Lloyd, captured by a secret society of high-tech occultists, is the given the first in a series of hormone injections following her first period. These injections will accelerate her sexual maturation.

1993: Laurie is now a teacher at a private boarding school in northern California. With she and her son living on campus under the pseudonyms “John and Keri Tate.”

1994: Jamie Lloyd now resembles an eighteen year-old, even though she’s chronologically only fourteen. So, she is next artificially inseminated…with sperm from her own Uncle Michael! Meanwhile, Kari and Danny Strode move back in with Kari’s parents in Haddonfield.

1995: Occurrence of the events depicted in HALLOWEEN 6.
1998: Occurrence of the events depicted in HALLOWEEN: 20 YEARS LATER.

2001: Laurie’s suicidal guilt over having murdered a paramedic with a crushed larynx (and wearing a duplicate of Michael’s infamous mask) compels her committment to a mental hospital. It is there that Michael will finally win their decades-long duel.

2002: Occurrence of the events depicted in HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION.

(Note: the resulting wrongful death suits against Dangertainment owner Freddie Harris inspire heavy metal rock star Rob Zombie to produce two gory films about the events in Haddonfield a quarter-century earlier. Albeit, semi-fictionally updated to the 21st century!)

That’s a pretty impressive but succinct synopsis, and I thank you for bringing us all up to date on John Carpenter’s “Halloween” chronology. I think that the original film was produced for only $350,000 using a mask modeled from William Shatner’s face for Michael Myers to wear…
