The concept does, indeed, sound like HP Lovecraft. But, by way of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson! In case you’re too young to remember (even from the 1980’s reruns), there was once a British action-adventure series called CAPTAIN SCARLET AND THE MYSTERONS. Filmed in “Super-Marionation,” string-operated puppets were used to depict a 21st-century war of psychological attrition between the titular aliens (a mysterious race of Martians) and an international defense organization called Spectrum.

The first manned expedition to Mars ended badly when the xenophobic Captain Black mistook a probing beam of light for an attack and fired on the Mysterons’ capital city. The Mysterons, however, were masters of retro-generation. Complete restoration of all obliterated matter right down to the subatomic level!

Consequently, when the expeditionary team was blown up, only Capt. Black was retro-generated. As their obedient zombie slave!

Unfortunately, for the Mysterons, they made one slight miscalculation. In doing the same thing to Spectrum Agent Capt. Scarlet, they ordered him to commit suicide after having him try to kill someone. But, he not only retro-generated from the fall He also retained that ability while simultaneously having his free will restored!

Needless to say, this series and THUNDERBIRDS are my two favorite Anderson puppet shows to this day.

Btw: quick review of “Abigail.” It’s more like “Usual Suspects” meets “The Ransom Of Red Chief” with only a slight nod to the 1936 horror film “Dracula’s Daughter.”

Strange! I thought I was going to find a mini-article about fire-breathing dogs, here. Maybe I was mis-alerted?

I’m trying to figure this one out. That’s my latest post, but it does not appear on all browsers and devices. I’ll try to fix it…please try again! 🤔
