Coyotes Kill Woman!
— A nineteen year old singer-songwriter from Toronto, Taylor Mitchell, was attacked and killed by coyotes as she was hiking alone in a park in eastern Canada. Police who were in the area reached the scene quickly and shot one of the animals, apparently wounding it. The injured coyote and a companion coyote managed to get away, however.
The woman was in critical condition when paramedics arrived with multiple bite wounds over her entire body. Despite being airlifted to a Halifax hospital, she died last Wednesday morning.
Coyote attacks are extremely rare because the animals are usually shy. A retired biologist with the Nova Scotia department of Natural Resources said that its possible the coyotes thought that the victim was a deer or other prey…

If that biologist thinks deer are occasionally bipedal, like bears, it’s no wonder he retired!
There are only two reasons coyotes would attack a lone human hiker: rabies; or, a taste for humans acquired by previous–and doubtlessly unrecorded–attacks on people. And, rabid canines are notorious loners.

That’s why he changed his name to “Ralph,” and helps train sheepdogs (who seem to be part boxer).
