CarMax’s “Car Buying Reimagined”

Alpacas are cute and appealing, and as we learn from a recent CarMax commercial, apparently quite clever! We see an alpaca on a farm watching the owner return in his pickup truck, his faithful dog hanging out of the side window. Digging this scene, the alpaca apparently feels that he would like to ride shotgun, too…

So to a minimal instrumental theme that sounds vaguely western-ish, we are shown the crafty alpaca making his way to a shed towards evening where behind closed doors, where he is apparently able to go on line, surf the web, and apparently order a vehicle with sunroof, all without the benefit of digits!

The next morning, the vehicle is delivered to the astonished farmer, neatly tied up with a bow! In the closing scene, we see the new wheels out on the road, the alpaca getting a commanding view with his long neck and head extended out of the sunroof! This alpaca (whose name is Randy) is like the closing theme tells us, “Bad to the bone!”

Believe it or not, Randy’s already got himself a new commercial (!) Some insurance outfit called NJM…who claim their initials stand for “No Jingles or Mascots.” So, the homeowner who’s bragging about his coverage to the next-door neighbor (who works for an unnamed rival insurance company) asks how the alpaca is working out as corporate mascot. And the neighbor says: “Better than the last one.”

Cue flashback to a (hopefully CGI) leopard.

I just hope NJM never bad-mouths the Carfox. 😉

If the Carfox and Randy the alpaca combined forces, they could rule the world! 🦊

Yes…but like most command personalities, advertising icons seem unable to occupy the stage at the same time, and would probably fight terribly if they did! 🦊

Speaking of stages: the first two so-called “celebrities” on MASKED SINGER have been unmasked and sent home. A couple of nobodies (I’ve certainly never never heard of them) named Duff Goldman and Joe Buck!

I followed Masked Singer for several seasons, and was an avid fan of Wayne Brady’s “the Fox,” but have since lost interest in the show. Familiarity breeds contempt… 🙀

Overly frequent visitation, and increasingly overdue departure, even more so!
